Today is the fathers' day, so I think it's not a bad idea, at all, to write few words on these wonderful personalities whose contributions over the course were remarkable.It is, of course, them whom drawn our attention towards the quest of many problems which would serve mankind after all.And the interest of gaining knowledge increases predominantly in recent years. However, have you ever wonder who these pioneers might be? Well I shall make it easy for you.
In 1831, at the age of 14 he was forced to work at a drug store of Henry M. Zollickoffer where he spent six years in Pennsylvania studying chemistry and pharmacy with utmost care. In 1837 he was graduated from the college of Pharmacy where he showcased his excellence very well. After the graduation in 1844 he opened a drug store at Ninth and Lombard streets and there he spent most of his time improving many of the formulae of the pharmacopeia and formulating new preparations and did some researches. That became his job for rest of his life. Among his achievements, he was elected professor of pharmacy in the college of Pharmacy and in 1849, he edited first ever magazine on pharmacy named "Practical Pharmacy". He was active more than three decades to popularize the science of pharmacy around the globe. He died from heart disease while delivering a lecture at the college on 9th Feb 1874.He was often considered as the father of American Pharmacy.
Due to his strong patriotism and under the influence of Gandhi he took a stand against the then principal of the college Charles A.King and consequently got suspended from the college and he went to America for higher studies. He graduated in chemical engineering and earned a scholarship but refused to study further. In 1925, he joined in Cornell University for a degree in arts with honours in chemistry. He did various courses in chemistry, but, he did not find interest in it, then, he turned towards the science of pharmacy in which chemistry pretty much involved in all over the course. In 1937, he fought with the system as well as community and eventually modified the course of graduation in pharmacy extending it to 3 years at BHU for the first time and later in 1940 he also introduced Master degree in pharmacy which was great achievement. He edited first ever magazine "Indian Pharmacist" and ran it for almost 10 years. Among his achievements, he became president of Bengal Pharmaceutical Association. Later he became president of Pharmacy council of India(PCI). He also edited first ever Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. He was the pillar behind such strong foundation of science of Pharmacy. He passed away on 25th August in 1971.
He had seen himself both as a physician and a philosopher which was quiet natural for every greek scholar. He wrote a book "That the Best Physician is Also a Philosopher" where he entitled many useful informations and theories about human nature and life also. He was reported dead at an age of 70.
William Procter Jr.
He was born on 3rd May, 1817 in Baltimore. He was very good at observation and had the ability to rapid acquire knowledge which was quiet astonishing at such young age. His father, Issac Procter, died tragically of yellow fever in 1820 which dragged him to work at a cooper shop of his relative where he became very familiar with tools which was of great use to him in after life.In 1831, at the age of 14 he was forced to work at a drug store of Henry M. Mahadeva Lal Schroff
He is considered as the father of Indian Pharmacy. He, himself, put lone effort to establish the science of Pharmacy in India which , later, became integral part of our community. He was born on 6th March, 1902 in Bihar, he passed intermediate exam in 1920. Aelius Galenus
He is often considered as the father of pharmacy. He devoted his whole life studying medicine and published many books on the medicine. He was born in september AD 129 in ancient Greece.He had seen himself both as a physician and a philosopher which was quiet natural for every greek scholar.
